The Author: Dan Morrell

Formerly known as DJ Smurf, a pioneer of Euro and Progressive music in the Midwest, Dan Morrell can rock a crowd with the best of em! Whether Dan is in the clubs spinning at the best parties, on the radio releasing new material, or in the studio producing hits, he is constantly surrounding himself with new challenges and opportunities.  Hard work is nothing new to The Mixmaster as he started his musical career in college as a campus favorite DJ.  It was from his determination and talent to play the best music that he landed an internship at the number one Chicago radio station, B96.  As an intern, Dan quickly learned the in’s and out’s of the entertainment business and knew he wanted to be on the radio.

When the opportunity came for Dan to work with B96, he fully embraced the offer.  Since 2001, Dan’s mixes have been heard across Chicago on the B96 Street Mix and at the hottest nightclubs across the country. In 2010 Dan was asked to do ground breaking rock mixes for CBS owned Jack-FM, which he gladly added to his list of duties.In addition to still being heard weekly at B96 after 10 years Dan is now working at the brand new West Coast Top 40 powerhouse, AMP radio in Los Angeles (the home to media legends like Carson Daly) and is excited to bring his talent and high energy show to where ever the party is at!

He has opened for such acts as Kanye West, Diddy, Justin Timberlake,  T-Pain, Akon, Rhianna, Shakira, Run DMC, Sean Paul, LL Cool J, Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, and Missy Misdemeanor Elliott, to name a few.  His impeccable reputation in Chicago has also opened other doors for him, like being the Chicago Bears’ exclusive DJ for their Official Tailgate Parties and Draft-Day Parties.

Besides being one of Chicago’s most loved DJ’s, Dan also owns Chicago’s most successful nightlife promotions company, Mixmaster Throwdown.  From his talent as a DJ and as an entrepreneur, Dan has since started Mixmastered Records. This new chapter in Dan’s life includes music production and collaborations with Chicago legend, Soundmaster T. With radio, TV, and film placements, this duo is ready to have everyone dancing to their original music and official major label remixes.

Accomplishing more in a few years then the average dj does in their entire career isn’t enough for Dan Morrell. He now adds live guitars to the high energy party music DJ sets he is known for. He debuted this new concept in front of 25,000 people at the B96 2009 Summer Bash in Chicago which featured the Black Eyed Peas, LMFAO, Kelly Clarkson, Akon, and more. Dan has been summoned to rock crowds in Japan, Canada, and all around the US with his amazing show. And in his action packed schedule, Dan even finds time to give private DJ lessons to celebrity clients in person and even via Skype. Dan attributes his ability to successfully juggle all of his duties to staying on the edge of technology and having a very loving and understanding family.
